BACKGROUND & TAINING

Martial Arts Illustrated

Master James Sinclair began his martial arts journey in 1972 studying karate. James then studied Wing Chun Kung Fu for nearly a decade in London’s China Town (England). There he studied under Simon Lau and became the senior representative before leaving to further his knowledge and experience. In 1985 Master Sinclair founded the United Kingdom Wing Chun Kung Fu Association (UKWCKFA) with only a handful of students.

James received personal tuition on several occasions from Grandmaster Ip Chun. Ip Chun is the son of the late Grandmaster Ip Man, the last undisputed Grandmaster of Wing Chun Kung Fu, famous for being the late Bruce Lee’s only formal teacher.

By 1989 James had formally completed the Wing Chun system and visited Hong Kong and China under the guidance of Grandmaster Ip Chun.

Grandmaster Ip Chun stated there was no more he could teach James, only his own idiosyncrasies, which James would no doubt continue to develop as his direction was correct.

PERFORMANCE

James is particularly renowned for his speed and control, and at a seminar completed over 35 punches in three seconds onto a focus mitt. Many people have witnessed him break three tiles suspended on string and arranged 180 degrees around him. James had to react to coins being dropped at arms length and break all of the tiles before the coins hit the floor. All of the tiles were broken in less then 1/5 of a second.

During over 30 years in martial arts, Master Sinclair has fought numerous semi-contact competitions, and has sparred with numerous boxers, full contact fighters, Thai boxers and many practitioners of other martial arts. James has also fought many private martial art challenge matches with no rules. He has since retired to concentrate on teaching.
